The Fight To Stay Alive

Poetry Book

The Fight to Stay Alive is a raw, powerful poetry book that chronicles the experiences of a queer teenager battling depression, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. With unflinching honesty, the author recounts their time in psychiatric hospitalization—a space both carceral and, paradoxically, a place where she found collective shared experiences.

With the duality of  internal chaos and external misunderstanding, this poetry book reveals the pain of growing up gay in a world that aims to silence the voices of the queer community. Through immense vulnerability, the author exposes the stigma surrounding mental health and the isolation that can come from being unseen and unheard within systems that aim to suppress the existence of unspoken voices.

It is not just a story of suffering and resilience — but one of resistance. From the darkest night of the soul to fragile moments of hope, The Fight to Stay Alive is a testament to the strength it takes to hold on to something when everything says let go.
